public class JPrintPreview

extends javax.swing.JComponent

implements java.awt.PrintGraphics

This is a preview for print jobs. You start by seting the PrintJob and you have to use the JPrintPreviews's createGraphics() instead of the PrintJob's getGraphics(). By calling or not calling startPrint() you decide whether to print or not.

Creates a new JPrintPreview instance setting the first print job

Parameters:

job - the print job that has to be set

Method Detail

setPrintJob

public void setPrintJob(java.awt.PrintJob job)

Sets the print job. All pages from the last print job are destroyed. This must be called before using createGraphics(). Never call end() of this print job. Use startPrint() instead.

Parameters:

job - the print job that has to be set

getPrintJob

public java.awt.PrintJob getPrintJob()

Gets the current print job

Specified by:

getPrintJob in interface java.awt.PrintGraphics

Returns:

the last print job set with setPrintJob(PrintJob) or null if the last print job has already been printed out.

createGraphics

public java.awt.Graphics createGraphics()

Creates a Graphics object that will draw to the next page. In difference to PrintJob.getGraphics(), this graphics object does not implement the PrintGraphics interface. Instead, JPrintPreview itself implements the PrintGraphics interface.

Returns:

a Graphics object for drawing the next page or null if no print job is set

startPrint

public void startPrint()

Prints out all pages. After this operation getPrintJob() will return null.
Note: You don't have to do this. Just don't call this method when you want to implement a "cancel" after the user saw the preview.
